GRAY ZONE MAKES A WINNING APPEARANCE AT THE JOHN E WEAVER EXCELLENT READS AWARD

November 20 14:22 2017

November 20, 2017: It’s rare to find anyone winning with teens, but Veronica Tabares did. Her high school-targeted book, Gray Zone, made a winning appearance at the John E. Weaver awards in the Young Adult Contemporary Fiction category.

With this bold page-turner, Veronica takes on one of the most feared events in the teenage life, cyberbullying. The book tells a story of a sophomore girl (Autumn) who was victim to a cyber-prank so intense she was forced to transfer schools. But Autumn’s situation didn’t get any better after changing schools despite her best efforts. Sometimes it seems bullies are everywhere.

Bullying has been around forever, and some believe it’s just a normal part of the high school experience. But cyberbullying is bullying on steroids and must be stopped. Veronica uses the incredible story of Autumn to reach out to teens about the dangers that arise from misusing electronic gadgets and devices. Gray Zone was crafted to help readers understand how a bully works and how to recognize the signs that someone is a victim. She knows a single book will not be able to stamp out cyberbullying. Her words best describe the value of the book, “Gray Zone doesn’t glorify suicide or bullying. It simply opens eyes and starts conversations. It’s what you do with those conversations that makes all the difference.”

Though it is geared towards teens in high school, the book makes an enjoyable read for people of all ages and in various life stages. Bullying comes in different shapes and sizes and Gray Zone is looking to be the tool the world needs in the fight against cyberbullying.
